The spotlight on how healthcare organizations across the care continuum are addressing system-wide patient safety is shining brighter than ever. New national recommendations and requirements have organizations taking a closer look at their own prioritization of patient safety. With a focus on the future, the 2025 Annual Conference will help healthcare professionals, from the bedside to the boardroom, and across healthcare sectors, develop a total systems approach to advancing patient safety.

Changing the Trajectory of Safety: Your Role in Driving Meaningful Progress: This session will explore why, after 20 years of patient safety efforts, meaningful process remains elusive. Dr. Fairbanks will challenge conventional approaches to safety and system design, encouraging you to think differently about how safety is achieved. Together, conference attendees will explore innovative ways to commit to designing safer systems that move us closer to the goal of zero preventable harm.

Looking Towards a Safer Future: Intent and Impact: This session will outline the latest national actions designed to create safer systems for both patients and the healthcare workforce. This session will examine new regulatory measures and initiatives targeting systemic safety issues, providing attendees an overview of these key activities. Led by Michele Schreiber from CMS, the session will provide attendees with insight into why the new CMS structural measures were created, offer attendees the opportunity to explore challenges, and focus together on actionable steps organizations can take to align with these requirements and impact change.

Assessment to Action: Implementing the National Action Plan and Moving Towards Total Systems Safety: This session will introduce the National Action Plan to Improve Patient Safety, providing a comprehensive overview of the report, and recommendations. Led by the co-chairs of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety, this session will explore the plan’s four foundational and interdependent areas, which the NSC prioritized as essential to create total systems safety. This session will inspire and equip participants to take actionable steps towards implementing the plan’s framework and advancing patient safety in their own institution.

Healthcare leaders, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and Patient Safety Executives, patient safety officers, quality improvement managers, and Front-line care providers.  This conference is applicable to both hospital and non-hospital settings alike. Leaders and patient safety professionals from pre-hospital and post-acute settings will benefit from this conference.

Contribute to MPSC’s mission to keep Maryland Healthcare Safe by submitting a   proposal to present a poster at the MPSC Annual Conference on April  10, 2025  at the Baltimore Hilton Inner Harbor. Conference proposal submissions should be timely, relevant, and evidence-based topics that feature best practices in patient safety and help achieve the conference learning objectives:

Submission will be prioritized that:

  • Support conference learning outcomes in various settings of care
  • Eliminate preventable harm in various settings of care
  • Demonstrably consider health equity in the work, and/or address a health equity topic
  • Incorporate patient safety and improvement science methods and outline the method or framework used to implement practice change(s)
  • Include key takeaways that allow the work to be replicated at other organizations
  • Clearly identify, describe, and address a gap in education, practice or outcomes that impacts patient safety or quality of care provided in a health care setting
  • Demonstrate an improvement and outline metrics that indicate the effects of practice change(s)
  • Reflect current or cutting-edge science through evidence-based content
  • Project is timely, relevant, creative, and innovate

Presentations should have no confidential information (e.g., patient-, family-, or staff-identifying information) and should be free of commercial bias (no mention of company equipment, company logos, tag lines, equipment photos with visible company names, etc.).

Incomplete submissions will not be evaluated. Submissions are due by Jan 15th at midnight.  Decisions on acceptance will be made by mid-February.

Submitting a proposal does not register you for this event. There is no fee to submit your proposal, however, if accepted, all Presenters are responsible for any fees associated with printing their poster, travel to and accommodations at the conference, and conference registration costs.  

Please plan to have your poster printed on XXXX (size, etc.) and at the conference location no later than 8:30 AM on Thursday April 10.

To ensure the success of our event and accommodate all participants, the following cancellation policy applies:

  • Cancellations made on or before March 27, 2025, will be eligible for a full refund.
  • No refunds or changes will be processed after March 27, 2025, including but not limited to registration transfers, or refunds for non-attendance.
